The Locket. Kate Chopin
The Locket is Chopin′s poignant Civil War story. Modern readers may be tempted to misread the word ′sward′ as ′sword,′ but sward is the word that Chopin used, referring to ′the grassy surface of land; that part of the soil filled with the roots of grass; turf.′
